God Hears—And Acts at the Right Time
“Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard.”
God hears our prayers and always acts at the right time.
I have prayer topics I’ve lifted up for years, and others I’m still praying about today. Yet I’ve often wondered why God hasn’t acted yet. These requests align with His will—so why the delay?
Zechariah & Elizabeth: Heard, Instructed, Sent
The story in Luke 1 has anchored my heart. Zechariah, a priest, and his wife Elizabeth were “righteous before God” (v. 6), yet they had no child. They had prayed about this (v. 13). As the years passed, questions surely multiplied—until the angel of the Lord announced they would have a son (v. 13), when Zechariah was no longer expecting it (v. 18).
- The answer came with a mission. They were told what to name the child and how to raise him (v. 13, 15).
- The child had a mission. John would be “great in the sight of the Lord”… “to make ready a people prepared for the Lord” (v. 15–17).
“He will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah… to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
Perfect Timing
John the Baptist came to prepare the way for Jesus. He was conceived at exactly the right moment—neither too soon nor too late. God’s delays are not denials; they’re often alignments.
“For the revelation awaits an appointed time… Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”
Keep Praying—And Be Ready for Assignment
All of this encourages me to persevere in prayer and expect that God may entrust a mission alongside the answer. Like Zechariah and Elizabeth— and through John—God’s response can reach far beyond our original request.
What will you choose to do—stop or keep praying? As for me, I will keep going.
