Disarmed in His Presence
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
I woke one morning with these words echoing in my heart: “I am disarmed in Your presence.”
Before I was fully awake, I found myself praying for someone with whom there had been long separation both in distance and relationship. Months earlier, the Lord had already begun a work of forgiveness and release in me, and I was deeply thankful for how far He had brought my heart.
Then, unexpectedly, the Lord brought this person back to mind; first to Jürgen, then to me, this time with peace. He invited us to bless, not to revisit pain. The prompting felt soft, gentle, and full of life.
After a night of prayer, I asked what “disarmed in Your presence” meant. Slowly, I understood.
️ Laying Down Hidden Weapons
The Lord had been working deeply cleansing, removing, replacing. Each step of trust and obedience laid down another weapon I had kept hidden:
- Pride
- Self-protection
- Fear
- The need to defend my own heart
One by one, I surrendered them. And with each surrender, I wasn’t becoming weaker, I was becoming lighter.
️ Unguarded, Not Unprotected
Less burdened, yet more protected because when we let God be our defender, He becomes our shield. In His presence, being disarmed doesn’t make us vulnerable to harm; it makes us available, vessels ready for His glory to flow freely.
“But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”
To be disarmed in His presence is to walk unguarded but not unprotected, surrendered but not powerless to release every weapon that hinders love so His Spirit can move unhindered through us.
A Simple Practice
- Name the weapon: “Lord, I lay down this pride/fear/defensiveness.”
- Exchange it: “Fill this space with Your peace and love.”
- Bless instead: Speak life where you once rehearsed hurt.
- Be still: Return to His presence when the impulse to defend rises.
