Staying Calm While Waiting

Choosing God’s peace in a long delay

“You will enjoy more blessings than all other peoples; there will be no barren man or woman among you, nor among your livestock.”

Deuteronomy 7:14

It is very difficult to stay calm while waiting for the Lord’s promises to come to fruition—especially when that wait is long. Mine lasted more than a decade.

Shortly after we married, I expected the dream of a child to happen quickly. But the months turned into years. We tried the medical options available to us, prayed, hoped, sighed—and still nothing. Doubt crept in. The questions and watchful eyes around me intensified the pressure.

In the swirl of my own tears and the suggestions to “seek solutions outside of God,” I had to learn to trust Him and to be still. I held tightly to promises He had given me—yet… nothing.

Pressures I Refused to Bow To

There were many voices: see a marabout, find a healer, return to the village for rituals. But the Lord guarded me. I did not compromise to obtain what I desired most.

The longing for motherhood was strong. Then one day, the Lord gave me understanding: seek His peace above all else.

Peace Before the Answer

From that day, a different kind of grace began to fill me. I didn’t yet have what I longed for—but I had His peace. Whether or not I received the desire became secondary; what mattered most was God Himself and how He revealed His heart to me in the waiting.

Today, I hold a wonderful little princess—an exquisite gift from the Lord. But the deeper lesson remains:

  • God is not a good Father because He gives me what I want when I want it.
  • God is not God because things follow my timeline.

Instead:

  • God is God because He created me.
  • God is a good Father because He knows the times and seasons.
  • God is God because He is never late—He acts at the right and perfect moment.

For You, In Your Wait

I don’t know the situation you’re carrying. You likely have expectations—I still have mine, too. But I want you to know: God is a good Father. He knows exactly what you need and will give it to you in His perfect timing.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV)
