🌿 Forget the Past
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and reaching toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13–14 (NIV)
There are moments in life when a single verse wraps around your heart like a healing balm. Lately, this one has done just that for me.
There was a season when I felt stuck, frozen by the weight of my past. It felt impossible to move forward because of the mistakes I had made, especially in my friendships.
I had chosen the wrong people, been hurt deeply, and let disappointment take root in my soul. I lived under the heavy shadow of “I should have…” and “If only I had…”
For years, I struggled to build new connections. I was afraid; afraid of being hurt again, afraid to trust.
So I shut down.
I convinced myself I didn’t need friendships. I built walls. I created mental theories to justify my isolation.
But none of it worked.
Then one day, it hit me:
The enemy wants us trapped in shame, fixated on what’s behind.
He whispers that our past is too messy, too small, or too big for God. That we’re beyond fixing. That we’re on our own.
But that is a lie.
“Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame.
Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.
You will forget the shame of your youth…”
Isaiah 54:4 (NIV)
The only way to be free from the past is through Jesus.
No distraction, no self-help plan, no amount of denial can heal the soul the way He can.
Jesus is the only one who can heal the scars, lift the shame, and rewrite our story.
It took time, but eventually, I began to surrender those painful memories to Him. I learned to trust again.
And as I did, God brought incredible women into my life, true friends, divine appointments, sweet gifts from heaven.
They’ve been a blessing, an encouragement, and a source of strength.
Now, I walk toward the future; not looking back, but pressing forward, my eyes on the prize.
“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
🕊️ What about you?
Are there memories still haunting you?
Is there something in your past that feels too hard to release?
Or maybe, like me, you’ve tried everything to forget… but nothing has worked.
Today, Jesus is inviting you to lay it down.
To stop trying to fix it on your own.
To trust Him with the healing.
Today’s Reminder:
🌸 You are not your past. You are loved. You are free. You are blessed.
