Trust in Him

🙏 Trust in HIM!

A Meditative Reading of Isaiah 2

“Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?”
— Isaiah 2:22 (NIV)

This verse struck my heart deeply today during my Bible reading. It echoed in my spirit like a personal command from the Lord:

“Jürgen, stop trusting in man— in someone whose breath is in his nostrils, who is limited in his days and strength. Why rely on him for what only the Creator can provide? Why expect from him the safety, wisdom, and satisfaction that only God offers?”

🤔 Why Do We Struggle to Trust God Alone?

It often feels more “practical” to place our hope in what we can see:

  • A job
  • A paycheck
  • A spouse
  • A mentor
  • A church
  • A reputation

But it’s foolishness to trust anything or anyone more than God. It’s a trap we fall into again and again—clinging to the visible instead of the Eternal One.

📖 A Thread Throughout Scripture

The Bible is full of verses echoing this call to trust in God alone. Here are a few:

  • “Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust…” — Psalm 40:4
  • “I will wait for the Lord… I will put my trust in Him.” — Isaiah 8:17
  • “Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in You.” — Psalm 84:12
  • “Blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.” — Proverbs 16:20
  • “He who trusts in the Lord will be enriched.” — Proverbs 28:25
  • “Whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.” — Proverbs 29:25
  • “You will keep in perfect peace those… who trust in You.” — Isaiah 26:3
  • “Cursed is the one who trusts in man… blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.” — Jeremiah 17:5 & 7
  • “The Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in Him.” — Psalm 32:10

📌 What Does It Mean to Trust?

The Hebrew word used often for “trust” is בָּטַח (bāṭaḥ) — meaning to cling to, to hold onto for safety, to lean on with confidence.

To trust God is to cling to Him in every season, to lean fully on Him, and to place our security in His sufficiency.

💡 What I’ve Realized

Looking back, I can see how often I’ve misplaced my trust:

  • I’ve seen my job as my source of stability.
  • I’ve viewed community (church or fellowship) as the anchor of my peace.
  • I’ve clung to family as the foundation of my well-being.
  • I’ve believed that possessions would bring lasting joy.

But every one of these—though good and important—proved limited. They could not bring true security, lasting joy, or deep peace. Only God can.

🌱 The Results of Trusting in God

From the Scriptures above, we see that the one who trusts in God:

  • Is blessed
  • Is happy
  • Is filled
  • Receives peace
  • Enjoys divine protection
  • Is surrounded by grace

In contrast, trusting in man brings confusion, instability, and spiritual drought.

🗝️ A Final Reflection

“Stop trusting in man... for what value is he?” — Isaiah 2:22

I want to boldly say today:
“I trust in the Lord. He is my sufficiency. He is my source. He is my peace.”

A thought for today:
Let go of false security. Cling to the Eternal One. Trust in the Lord with your whole heart.
