Wait? Why?

💍 Waiting Until Marriage: A Bold, Beautiful Choice

“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.”
1 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV)

Today, I felt the Lord put a burden on my heart for this generation, specifically about romantic relationships.

After several conversations with young women and scrolling through social media, I noticed how common and normalized sex before marriage has become. There’s no longer any shame surrounding it; it’s even proudly displayed online.

To be honest, it grieves me deeply.

So many young people are missing out on the beautiful plan God has for love, relationships, and intimacy.

I believe with all my heart that God’s design is good, not to restrict us, but to protect and bless us. When we step outside the boundaries He’s given, we can end up hurting ourselves more than we realize, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

💔 What Are We Missing?

Sex outside of marriage can leave behind shame, broken hearts, and confusion. But even deeper than that, it blinds us to something far more beautiful: a kind of love that honors, waits, and reflects Christ.

Think about this:
How cherished would you feel to know someone loved you so much that they chose to wait, not because they had to, but because they wanted to honor God and honor you?

“Treat them with respect as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life…”
1 Peter 3:7b (NIV)

When someone waits for marriage to be physically intimate, it’s not just a sign of discipline; it’s a declaration:
“I love the One who created you even more than I love you, and that’s why I want to do this right.”

🛶 Inviting Jesus into the Relationship

During my last trip to Cameroon, I was talking with one of my sisters about how essential Jesus is in a relationship.

When we do things God's way, He becomes the foundation. So when hard times come, and they will, we know who to turn to. He initiated the relationship, so He can guide it and sustain it.

Waiting isn’t easy, especially when you’re dating someone you truly care about. Attraction is real. But is it worth trading a few moments of pleasure for long-term regret and spiritual drift?

More than that, what kind of testimony do we want our lives to be?

✨ Your Story Can Inspire

You may not realize it, but your decision to wait can impact the people around you—your classmates, coworkers, friends.

“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.”
2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)

Last year, I shared with a classmate that my boyfriend and I had chosen to wait until marriage to be intimate. She was shocked and curious. She asked how a man could respect me enough to say “no” to sex... just because of his love for me and for God.

That conversation opened the door to talk about Jesus. She didn’t give her life to Christ that day, but she left with a Bible in hand and a hunger to learn more. All because of one choice.

What if your purity is the seed that leads someone else to salvation?

🔁 It’s Not Too Late

Maybe you’ve already crossed that line. Maybe you’re thinking, “This isn’t for me anymore.”

But listen: It’s never too late to start again.

“But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”
Genesis 19:26 (NIV)

Looking back can keep us stuck. Jesus isn’t asking about your past; He’s asking for your heart today.

If you’ve fallen, get back up. You can still choose to live differently. You can still decide to honor God starting now.

And yes, God can still send someone who will love you, honor you, and wait for you, no matter your past.

📝 Why It Matters

  • It honors God and shows our obedience to His Word.
  • It honors your future spouse and proves that love is more than passion; it’s commitment and sacrifice.
  • It impacts others by shining the light of Christ in a world full of darkness.
  • It’s never too late to begin again. Jesus can rewrite your story.

🙏 A Final Word

Waiting is countercultural. It’s hard. But it’s worth it.

Ask the Lord to give you strength to flee when you need to flee, and courage to stand firm when it counts.

You are not alone. Jesus is with you, and He will empower you to become a voice in your generation, a light that shows a different way.

🌸 A thought for today:
Let your purity be your worship, your wait be your witness, and your love story be one written by God.
